Okay, I started with no high expectations, but OH MY GOD, this book has EVERYTHING I want in a book!

We have an older woman, a pining hero (who has d piercings and tattoos), the FMC is the one to convince him to go up to her room, and use lingerie and say:

“If you don’t want to,” she says, stepping so close that I can feel the warmth of her skin through my clothes. “I won’t pressure you.”

And

“Tell me what you need ,” she says

And I’M HERE FOR IT!!!!!!

You know I love a shy hero!!!!

But then this hero shows us he is not shy! He is the perfect Sturn Brunch Daddy!!!!

So you can tell that I love the spice in this book, it has everything I want

Equality rate: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 

This is the Positive Behaviours list:

Communication, Communication about safe sex and preferences, Explicit and enthusiastic consent, Female as the dominant in intimate scenes, Female who initiates intimate scenes, Healthy sexuality (toys, kink, free sexuality), Male consent, Mental Health

However, A LOT of the female main character’s choices were very very bad and wrong, she did not make smart choices, even though I believe her intentions were pure. I won’t talk about them, because that would be a HUGE spoiler, but I took out Equality points because of that.

Adjectives and general thoughts: This book was amazing, really well written, with a hot and interesting story, in terms of Equality, it had some AMAZING points, but I disagree with a lot of Jules’s actions, and that took some points out.

My rate: This book was fascinating. Lucy had the “opportunity” to analyze her own life and choices as an outsider. I loved her journey of understanding who was, who she became and who she wanted to be. It was amazing to see her journey, in acceptance and find out how she became who she was in her 30s. I believe most of us, also get to a point in life and think “How did I get here?”, just like Lucy. To be fair, I’m 20 years old, not exactly questioning much of my life decisions yet, but I loved seeing Lucy going through that.

It was hilarious and interesting and it hooked me from “page” one.

My audiobook rate: ⭐⭐⭐ 3/5

The narration was a bit confusing. A lot of the characters had very similar voices, which confused me at times, but it was still very awesome to listen to this book.

The whole point of my Equality rate was to talk about healthy relationship/personality role models in books. This premise is exactly the opposite of what I would want any of my friends to do.

The story had a good plot, I loved the idea of falling in love by text, without seeing them, getting to know each other without the barriers that their identities had.

However, the drama of the conflict was a bit much, didn’t think it was such a big lie or such a big deal.

Also, the resolution of the Andrew part was too fast, I would prefer if Crosby wasn’t friends with Andrew, since he was a huge idiot.

Crosby was also a bit of a douchbag at times, saying things about being able to get any girl he wants and things like that, and also, the fact that he knew Andrew cheated on Brooke for a year and he never said anything grated on my nerves.

The writing was a bit bland, but overall it was an enjoyable book.

Equality rate: ⭐⭐⭐ 3/5

This was a bit neutral, it did lose some points for having Catfishing, lies, lack of honest communication, and because Crosby was an accomplice to Andrew’s cheating and that is not okay. But overall it was neutral in the equality rate category. 

Adjectives and general thoughts the concept was good, the execution was kinda bland, it was cute at times and hot at others, so overall a good book, but the conflict was predictable and the writing could be more deep inside the characters’ stories and motives.

The writing was amazing, the action plot was thrilling and there are no dull moments in this book, enjoyed it really much.

In comparison with the first book, this one was WAY better, in terms of consent and “open communication”. The dynamics were not so different from book one, but there is one tiny detail: SHE CONSENTED TO IT!!!!!

It made a huge difference for me. Comparing their relationship while they were all lying to her, with when she is aware of the situation and SHE DECIDES she wants it.

Also, there’s no Dub Con here, everything (for the most part) was fully consented and I appreciate that.

Also, we saw different sides from the male characters that we hadn’t before, and in my head, they are not such assholes anymore.

So in the end, it is still a kinda low rate for equality, but it was enough for me to read it and enjoy it a lot.

Adjectives and general thoughts: Still very interesting, amazing writing, but the consent is better here, so I really truly enjoyed it

This was a really good book, it really entertained me, hooked me from page one. However… A lot of heavy things happen in it, and I’m not okay with most of it. 

Equality rate: ⭐ 1/5 

My two main problems were the abuse on page and the dubious consent. 

I was not triggered by it, that is not a trigger I have, but it made me deeply uncomfortable. 

I understand that it is the point of the book, and a lot of people like it, it just bothered me a lot, and I couldn’t let go of it. 

My other big problem with this is lying and deceiving and playing. These men view and treat Landry like an object, they toy with her, manipulate her and all they can think about is sleeping with her, while she is living in hell. They have their pissing matches and their jealousy fits and they don’t seem to really care that she is being abused, just about who gets to be the first to sleep with her. That bothered me really much. 

In the end, it was a very entertaining book, that hooked me, but I can’t give a book with this many negative equality points, a high rate:

Aggressive behavior, Aggressive grabbing or pulling, Controlling issues, Dubious Consent, Emotional manipulation, Gaslight, Jealousy, Love interest scares the main character by driving recklessly, Monitor where the love interest goes and with whom, No Communication, No explicit consent, Possessiveness, Sexism, Stalking, The main character is afraid of the love interest, The main character is viewed as an object, Unprotected sex (consensual or non-consensual)

Adjectives and general thoughts: Very entertaining, amazing writing, but it had major problems with consent that I can’t let go of.

I loved this book, pretty much everything about it. I cannot find something bad to say 😂, so here is a list of all the things I loved:

Okay, I love this type of grumpy. He is not rude, he is not unpleasant, but his joy is reserved. I LOVED the scenes where he smiled, only for Izzy. And his smile became something so precious.

This entire book is about the tiny special moments that are often overlooked. And I love those moments. I love the tiny touches and the thrills and the small smiles that mean everything.

I loved the languages of love and the teaching each other how to fall in love, this whole book is a lesson on Romance (in real life and literature) and I think that men should read it and learn from it…

I already knew that Sarah Ready was an amazing author because Josh and Gemma Make a Baby became one of my favorite books of all time, but I didn’t know that all her books were got get me like this.

This had the perfect balance between deep, sweet, romantic, magical, and also sad.

I laughed and I cried during this book (and it is hard to make me cry while reading), and I felt so much joy and butterflies.

I loved the Fate and Soul Mates narrative, that it felt more like a personal belief than something magical, but that it works in the end. I love the grumpy and sunshine and the reflecting over your life aspect.

Equality rate: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 

I went through the same thing Nate went, staying with someone that didn’t make you happy because it was the plan. I understood him and also felt seen and understood. It is really hard to give up on your plans or to accept that they were not right, but it’s what’s gonna make you live a good life.

Ultimately I loved that this was an insta love that wasn’t actually insta love. I don’t enjoy that trope, but it would have worked here, but I loved how the author solved it, how they worked their own problems, on their own and came back together better, by themselves.

It was just perfect.

This book gave me many emotions. The first 60% were pretty much perfect, delicious with a lot of mafia and amazing power. But when the conflicts started, they were shattering to me. When Adrik broke Sabrina’s trust he also broke mine. In the end, he did redeem himself, but it’s not the same (as my mom says, a broken vase will never be the same again, and this is true about Adrik). He was in my book boyfriend category before he f*** things up. And even though he did redeem himself, and he did show that he is working on his flaws, he just lost his status to me.

I understand a lot of the mistakes both Sabrina and Adrik made in their relationship and in general, however, it pissed me off to read Sabrina apologizing, again and again, when in my head, she didn’t really need to apologize. It was extremely gratifying to see her have her revenge, to see Adrik having to bite his tongue for every second he doubted her, so in my head, he needed to apologize because he deserved everything he got, but he never did apologize and that pisses me off.

I believe this was one of the best books I’ve ever read by Sophie Lark, I already loved her, but now, wow. This was very well written, I love the inside view of the mob and the struggle to have success inside it. I love to see the pressure and stress of the leader and to see how flawed Adrik is.

And as in all of Sophie Lark’s books, the action is amazing and thrilling and it makes the book even better.

Equality rate: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 

Adrik started to book looking perfect. He was powerful and strong, like an alpha, but without the jealousy and possessiveness that is typical of this type of hero, which made him look like the best of both worlds. However he was not immune to toxic masculinity, he was not immune from the need to be the boss, to be the one that is always right and is never questioned. I understand his troubles and even though he was an as***le, he did realize his mistakes and took care of her. Sometimes I don’t think it was enough, but I liked to see him work in getting better.

This couple has some DEEP communication issues, and the end of the book hints at them solving that. I do believe that their relationship depended a lot on the physical, but they used the physical to talk about the emotional. This book had one of the most heartfelt sex scenes I’ve ever read and I loved that.

This had a lot of very positive sides (these are the points it checked on my positive behaviors list: 

Aftercare, Diverse Cast, Explicit and enthusiastic consent, Healthy sexuality (toys, kink, free sexuality), Innovative points of view about gender roles and stereotypes, Men who realize they were sexist, Powerful and strong female main characters, Women in male-dominated jobs/fields

But it also had some of the worst negatives I’ve ever seen in a book… :

Belittle or minimize their accomplishments, Controlling issues, Dangerous power dynamics, Dominating decision-making process, Emotional violence, Fault the abuse on the victim, Insult or humiliate the love interest in front of friends and colleagues, Isolation from peers, Monitor where the love interest goes and with whom, No Communication, Sexism, Stalking, Unprotected sex (consensual or non-consensual)

In the end, my rate is 4 because the redeeming process saved the story for me, and it was mostly a very equal book, having small but very impactful scenes of inequality.

Not the best writing ever (not the worst either) but the story is so amazing and so funny, it makes up!

I did miss a bit of deeper character development and a bit of a less dramatic end, but overall I loved this book!

Super funny and it paints an overall accurate picture of the kink community.

One thing I hate is that the next books in the series are not out yet. I NEED THEM! Like right now!

One thing that bugs me and I believe misrepresents the BDSM community is: Emerson is a Dom, and he just starts behaving dominantly towards Charlie, before they are in any kind of relationship, outside of work. You would think is okay, BUT BDSM is all about CONSENT. You don’t treat someone as your sub unless you have a conversation and a negotiation about each other’s dos and don’t s, where you establish how your relationship is going to work, and then you have consent and safe words and all types of protection. Safewords are not only for s*xual activity, and you need to be careful about any type of interaction, emotional or physical (for example, some people get triggered by brating, someone as a submissive needs to have the Dom’s consent before doing such thing and that works the same way with the Dom).

You cannot just start bossing random people around you without their consent. If you do that, you’re not being kinky, you’re just being abusive.

So what bugs me here is, he starts telling her what to do, who to talk to, how to dress, sometimes even being rude and making her uncomfortable or hurt emotionally, without ever having a conversation or her consent about getting into any type of Dom/sub dynamic, which is one of the most important parts of BDSM.

Just because you believe someone to want something, it doesn’t mean you can just start doing it to them. If I believe that my friend is hungry I can’t just start shoveling food down their throat without their permission, and that is the same about ANY type of interaction, emotional, physical, romantic, or platonic.

Now, this didn’t ruin the book for me, but it did raise a small red flag.

Also, sexual harassment and dangerous power dynamic, because she is his employee. This constitutes a power dynamic that can be very dangerous, even if it doesn’t play out this way in the book, I’ll always talk about this when we have a boss/employee kind of relationship

There are parts in the book where you see the very deep knowledge about BDSM the author has, and I loved those moments. I also missed a very hot, very kinky, and smutty book, and this was just perfect for me!

I also loved the diverse secondary characters and overall the whole story.
